Spotlight Series: Scott Kirby

Legacy Club shines a light on some of our members to see what makes them and their business tick.

We spoke to We Are Savvy, Founder, Scott Kirby

Please tell us a little bit about you the person (not you the business owner): Friendly, relaxed, committed and most importantly passionate. An accountant by background but nothing like an accountant, something I'm sure you will agree on when we meet. From the south coast, lived in Malta and Dubai and now have managed to end up in Leeds. Love a round of golf and travelling.

Describe your business in less than 30 words: A truly game changing approach to recruitment and staffing delivered in a value first way.

What industry or sector does your business fall in to?: Recruitment/Tech

What did you do before you started your business?: I was a FD/CFO for many years before deciding to go it alone at the end of 2019, in hindsight probably the worst time to start out with the on set of the pandemic following shortly after. Having made a lot of mistakes and lost a money in the process, this has really sharpened my focus when building my next businesses. Outside of the recruitment platform above, I will also be shortly launching an app in the real estate market, looking at blending Purple Bricks / Right Move / Check-a-trade / Uber all in to one place. Outside of my own companies I also work as a consultant across a number of companies as a NED/External CFO assisting with strategy and fundraising.

What have been the biggest struggles that you have encountered, and what did you do to overcome them?: Biggest challenge is time, between working to fund my lifestyle and having the time to dedicate to launching my businesses. Still trying to overcome them and balance the overall perspective.

Have you had any external investment to date?: No

What has been the impact of COVID-19 on your business and did you make any changes, or pivots?: Started my latest business after Covid.

Do you struggle with, or have you found any of the following barriers to your business growth?: Infrastructure, People & Talent, Leadership Capacity

Do you have any business hero's, if so, who are they?: A massive fan of a lot of the Dragons from Dragons Den, in particular Duncan Bannatyne and James Caan. The biggest inspiration is how they started their businesses. John Caudwell is also a massive inspiration.

Financial Rewards or Business Awards?: Financial Rewards

What was the last book you read?: The Lean Startup

Tell us something totally unique about your business: We are the only recruitment business that is Altruistic.

Finally, please tell us what we can look forward to with your business in the next 12 months: A successful launch and rapid growth.
