Spotlight Series: Philippa Tuck

Legacy Club shines a light on some of our members to see what makes them and their business tick.

We spoke to the brilliantly talented, Philippa Tuck

Please tell us a little bit about you the person (not you the business owner): I would describe myself as gregarious, emotionally intelligent, kind-hearted, very social; and wield a creative soul with a curious and intellectual mind. I have a real zest for life which very much comes through in all aspects of my world, and like to create a positive impact to those I am with.

Things people may not know about me is that I adore baking (as well as cooking in general) and have a side-line in wedding / occasion cakes: www.philippatuckcakes.com and I am also currently in the process of establishing myself in doing voiceovers - philippatuck.com/philippa-tuck-voiceovers.

Describe your business in less than 30 words: Potential Made Real. I work with leaders wanting step-change growth and provide the ‘how’ they're going to realistically push to the next level.

What industry or sector does your business fall in to?: Management/Business Consulting

What did you do before you started your business?: I've moved quite purposefully in my career across brand, marketing, operations, and sales. Starting in client servicing, within top ten advertising agencies, I developed my foundation to problem solving, creative thinking, building award-winning brands, and integrated marketing solutions. Given my innate problem solving and data analytical mind I sought out my desire to be at the helm of business and commercial development. Strategically driving revenue growth; pivoting and taking businesses forward.

It was during this journey I realised my passion was enabling step change growth and why I set up my own growth consultancy business, to impart my wisdom and experience to shape businesses wishing to push to the next level. Working with CEOs/Founders and executive teams to help them facilitate their wants and needs.

What have been the biggest struggles that you have encountered, and what did you do to overcome them?: Crikey, there have been many struggles as it's my first year starting up, but main one has been being the 'hero'. This is two-fold. One in terms of me personally within my business as it's just me, and whilst I love my dog, Huxley's not going to provide advice or thoughts of a given day! It's why it' was crucial for me to find right networking environments and mentors that I can turn to in order to soundboard ideas and enable my thought process. Secondly, I want to ensure I deliver on my promise to clients to fully enable them to realise their growth potential and again being the 'hero' I am limited in what I can offer - therefore I have a number of roster subject matter experts (the PT SMES if you will) and partners I can bring in to help meet a client's need and fulfil objectives for growth.

Have you had any external investment to date?: No

What has been the impact of COVID-19 on your business and did you make any changes, or pivots?: It actually had a positive impact, because of people's now acceptance to working from home. It's allowed me to keep running costs low whilst I form my business foundations. As well as provide me with personal flexibility

Do you struggle with, or have you found any of the following barriers to your business growth?: Leadership Capacity, Access to markets

Do you have any business hero's, if so, who are they?: Ones I admire with what they've achieved are likes of Karen Brady and Helena Morrissey. I think a real hero to me is someone who also matches my integrity and therefore to say, with conviction, as to who those people would be, I would have had to work with them. I've therefore had the pleasure of working with some amazing leaders over my time in all shapes, sizes and seniority who I think of as my business heroes.

Financial Rewards or Business Awards?: Business Awards.

What was the last book you read?: Currently reading Zero to One: Notes on Start Ups, or How to Build the Future (Blake Masters & Peter Thiel)

Tell us something totally unique about your business: I don't look at things in isolation, I have the ability to move horizontally and vertically across a business to unlock what's needed for success.

Finally, please tell us what we can look forward to with your business in the next 12 months.: Over the next 12months I hope to share some great client case studies and PR news, as well announcing exciting partnerships that aim to enable companies in realising their true growth potential.
