Please tell us a little bit about you the person (not you the business owner): I’m 31 years old and live between Watford and Bolton, where my partner and son live.
Describe your business in less than 30 words: Equals Health is a certified organic food business that develop and produce healthy organic prepared meals, for retail and online.
What industry or sector does your business fall in to?: Food production
What did you do before you started your business?: I was in sales - I previously worked for Rentokil Initial and my patch was the W2 and W1H area of london
What have been the biggest struggles that you have encountered, and what did you do to overcome them?: Starting a business from scratch in a sector I wasn’t already working in. This has been quite a journey but because I believe in our brand and product we will get to where we need to be.
Have you had any external investment to date?: Yes
What has been the impact of COVID-19 on your business and did you make any changes, or pivots?: At the point that COVID was effecting business we were just selling to London retailers, which were hit quite hard as the footfall was very low. A lot of the stores we delivered to rely on footfall from local office works.
What have been the barriers to your business growth?: Access to finance/funding, People & Talent
Do you have any business hero's, if so, who are they?: My best mate, Oli. He was diagnosed with a blood cancer but still found the mental strength to build his business from his hospital bed through his treatment process (which is still on going) and has built this up to a trading business that is doing very well. If Oli can do this with the set backs he has faced, I don’t think there is any excuse for us not to do the same. That’s not just a sound bite paragraph, he really has become an inspiration to me.

Tell us something totally unique about your business: We are one of only a handful of certified Organic companies that specialise in Organic prepared meals.
Finally, please tell us what we can look forward to with your business as we head in to 2021: Equals Health will have an increased online presence and also listed in more retailers.
We will be pushing for a sales run rate of 1million per year by the end of next year.
